Updated on August 8, 2026, by Mark Sammut: The article has been updated with all the current free games.
August 2026’s free games come fast and don’t stick around for long, so everyone needs to act quickly to ensure they don’t miss out on anything they might want. Throughout the month, you can claim free games from Amazon Prime Gaming (aka Amazon Luna), Steam, Epic Games Store, IndieGala, and more, with the giveaways ranging from small indie titles with barely any name recognition to massive AAA projects that sound too big to be simply handed out.
Console users exist in entirely different ecosystems that do not accommodate freebies on the regular; however, PS5 and Xbox owners can at least look forward to the new games added to PS Plus and Game Pass. Both services typically add 10+ games per month, including huge titles like Beast of Reincarnation and Rise of the Ronin. Don’t miss out.
Please note that the section below containing the links is updated far more frequently than this article.
Active Free Games
Steam Free Games
Moonlighter
One of Steam’s biggest free games in a while, Moonlighter‘s giveaway stems from its sequel’s 1.0 announcement, serving as a celebration of the future and a thank you for the past.
Breathedge

Steam is also handing out Breathedge for free, an open-world sci-fi game that focuses on survival and crafting. Solve puzzles, gather resources, and make the most of a bad situation.
Epic Games Store Giveaways
Beacon Pines & We Were Here Together
Epic Games Store’s second weekly free games for August are Beacon Pines and We Were Here Together, both of which fall under the mystery genre, albeit in very different ways. With a storybook presentation and a focus on exploration and puzzles, Beacon Pines is a charming indie game that looks great. Meanwhile, We Were Here Together is a co-op game that tests your communication skills.
A Guidebook of Babel (Mobile)
- Giveaway End Date: August 13, 2026 @ 8 AM PT; 11 AM EST; 5 PM CEST
- Epic Games Store Page: A Guidebook of Babel
Alongside its two free weekly games, Epic has begun to hand out a mobile title as well, which requires downloading the store’s app. Just follow the steps in the above link to get the current game, A Guidebook of Babel.
Spider Fox
- Giveaway End Date: August 13, 2026 @ 9 AM PT; 11 AM EST; 5 PM CEST
- Usual Price: $7.99
- Epic Games Store Page: Spider Fox
Ah, don’t you just love the weirdness created by indie devs? To be clear, I mean that in the most positive way imaginable. Spider Fox is exactly what you think it is, and the protagonist is freaky in a way that might just be off-putting for some folks, including myself. Nevertheless, this is ultimately a 3D platformer with a unique moveset, and it is fairly well-regarded by the handful of people who have actually played it.
Project First Contact
Epic Games Store is also handing out Project First Contact for a limited time, which seems to be a first-person horror game focusing on UFOs.
Amazon Luna / Prime Gaming (Requires Amazon Prime Membership)
Free Games For GOG, Epic Games Store, and Amazon Games

Amazon Prime Gaming, aka Amazon Luna, might be the most overlooked source of monthly free-to-claim games. At any given moment, you can pick up around 15 titles, including some pretty big names (Mafia 3 and Tomb Raider IV-VI were both free in July). All you need is an Amazon Prime subscription and a willingness to visit Amazon Luna’s “Claim Games” page, which contains a bunch of titles spread across different sites like GOG, Epic Games Store, Amazon Games, and Legacy Games.
Currently, you can claim about 18 games, with most of the giveaways expiring in August. A few of the bigger names are Terraforming Mars, In Sound Mind, XCOM: Chimera Squad, Zoria: Age of Shattering, and Escape Academy, although I would recommend claiming every single freebie on offer.
Once you claim a game through Amazon Luna, it is yours – no Amazon Prime or Amazon Luna subscription required to play.
The listed dates are when the giveaways end.

Ubisoft Store Free Game Giveaway
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
Ubisoft doesn’t frequently hand out free games, but the publisher decided to celebrate Ghost Recon‘s 25th anniversary by handing out Future Soldier for free. If you enjoy third-person shooters, this one should be right up your alley, although I suggest lowering expectations if you crave a tactical shooter. Future Soldier is essentially a linear cover shooter that focuses on blockbuster action, with very little in the way of actual tactics.
You will need an Ubisoft Connect account to claim this one, and you might get an error if you simply go to the game’s page and try to add it like that. Instead, go to your library and then select “Free Games,” which should list Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier with an “Add to my games” option. Just press that, and the game will be yours.
Alienware Arena Giveaway (Steam)
Dwarven Realms

While fairly rare, sites like Alienware and Legion occasionally hand out free games, and the giveaways typically last for as long as keys are available rather than being tied to a specific date. Consequently, you need to really act quickly to take advantage of these deals, as they won’t be around forever, and we cannot predict how long they will be available.
As long as you have 10 ARP points, you can claim Dwarven Realms from the Alienware Arena marketplace. Basically, you need to be an AWA user, and ARP points are earned through daily actions. 10 points should be fairly easy to collect.
Alienware Arena also has a Game Vault that features roughly 10 AAA-A games per month, all available for free with Arena Reward Points.
IndieGala Free Games
Blacklist Mafia, Whiskey.Mafia, & Game of Mafia

Similar to Itch.io, IndieGala loves to hand out the occasional freebie, and you can currently pick up a mafia-themed trilogy.
Bad Cat Sam

- Giveaway End Date: Unknown
- Usual Price: $2.99
- IndieGala Store Page: Bad Cat Sam
If you prefer felines to gangsters, Bad Cat Sam might be more your speed. As implied by the title, you take control of a cat that loves to cause a mess.

PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
